Masterclass: Science, History and Philosophy in stand-up

Masterclass: Science, History and Philosophy in stand-up

- -

The Bill Murray : Training, Islington, United Kingdom

Science, history and philosophy aren’t necessarily the first things people associate with stand-up but exploring big ideas is increasingly a necessary way to make your stand up stand out.

How do you mix something silly with something serious? How do you mix the anecdotal with the theoretical? What joke structures mimic formal arguments how are you already using them with out knowing it? How do you include people in the joke with knowledge of a concept while not losing those who are unfamiliar?

This Masterclass is run by Alex Farrow who is host and producer at the award wining Jericho Comedy (Chortle Top 6 comedy night in the UK 2019). Jericho produces shows such as Stand-up Philosophy Oxford, Stand-up History and Stand-up literature with sell out shows in the 600 seat Oxford Museum of Natural History as well as comedy clubs around the UK. Alex's most recent solo show "Philosophy A-Level" had a sell out run at the Edinburgh 2019 Fringe Festival. He was recently featured in BBC Radio 4's Comedy Club Extra

Stand-up and former school teacher Alex Farrow runs Stand-up Philosophy Oxford, Stand-up Literature and Stand-up History. These are shows where professional comedians and experts explain big ideas in hilarious ways. These shows are very popular and have had sell out tours of the UK from Brighton to Edinburgh in museums and comedy clubs

Alex's solo show “A-level Philosophy” was full or oversubscribed everyday in Edinburgh 2019 with truly glowing audience reviews. I directed the Science Comedy Show Matt: Hobbs Bristolian of Science 2019. Alex is directing Chelsea Birkby in Sexistentialism in 2020
